St. Josephs Center of Venice is having a series of cooking class fundraisers to benefit the center’s culinary training program. The classes start this Wednesday and are a great way to help the community while learning some kitchen skills from some of the greatest Chefs around Venice.
Wednesday, October 21: The Chocolate Spectacular by Gourmandise Desserts
Saturday, October 24: From Sicily with Love: Cooking and History Lesson on Sicilian Cuisine featuring Chef Antonio Mure of Ado Ristorante in Venice and Linda Civitello, food historian.
Saturday, November 14:Decadent Desserts and Sweet Plates by Gourmandise Desserts and Kensington Caterer

Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 6:30p – 9:00p: The Chocolate Spectacular by Gourmandise Desserts
Through this “chocolate experience”, you will learn to create three delectable courses including chocolate mousse, truffles, and a chocolate decadence cake (with a salted caramel ganache, yum!). As you enjoy your creations, you will also learn the history and significance of chocolate in society.

Saturday, October 24, 2:00p – 4:30p: From Sicily with Love: A Scrumptious Cooking and History Lesson on Sicilian Cuisine featuring Chef Antonio Mure of Ado Ristorante in Venice and Linda Civitello, food historian and author of the book Cuisine and Culture: A History of Food and People
A collaborative lesson by Chef Antonio Mure of Ado Ristorante and Linda Civitello, food historian, scholar and author of the book Cuisine and Culture: A History of Food and People.
The three mouthwatering courses taught this afternoon are Butternut Squash Zuppa, Filet Mignon in Barolo Truffle Sauce with Griddled Wild Mushroom Risotto Cake and Crema di Vanilla.

WHY: All proceeds from classes will benefit St. Joseph Center’s Culinary Training Program, an innovative vocational initiative that gets unemployed men and women back on their feet by helping them obtain jobs after just ten weeks of classroom and kitchen training while establishing a career path that provides plenty of opportunities for advancement. 50 % of the class fee is tax deductible.
