The Pichet Venice /Mangú/ B1 Bakery location at 2805 Abbot Kinney is now “South End“, a wine and pizza bar from partners Frank Fermin (Mozza) and Mario Vollera (Piccolo Venice, Barbershop).
Fermin, who will head up the kitchen, most recently completed a stint as Chef Di Cucina at Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles and as consulting chef at Osteria Mozza in the Marina Bay Sands Singapore.
Dishes will be “inspired by those available in casual European cafés and include baked goods and coffee for early morning diners, and transition into a more extensive menu starting at 3:00 p.m. South End’s menu consists of traditional pizzas, rustic flatbreads, salads, cheeses, and charcuteries ranging from $8-$16. Specialties include handcrafted pizza topped with homemade mozzarella, hand chopped tomato sauce made from slow-roasted Roma tomatoes, and a variety of locally sourced products.”
Associazione Italiana Sommelier Mario Vollera was responsible for the wine list, which consists of about two dozen wines from around the world ranging in price from $9-$18 by the glass to $36-$105 by the bottle.
The restaurant will seat 28, with an emphasis on communal dining. The hours are 8am-11pm. Delivery and take out are also available.
“South End” will “soft open” this week, but the official opening date is September 14th.
