Get ready for big waves this holiday weekend. A beach hazards statement now in effect through Saturday evening.
A long period south swell will result in elevated surf and strong rip currents through this Saturday evening. The surf may locally reach high surf thresholds. Dangerous currents and waves are expected due to elevated surf of 3 to 6 feet with local surf to 7 feet.
Expected to slowly subside Saturday night into Sunday, surf could possibly increase again on Monday, the 4th of July. Bringing with it an increased risk of drowning as rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea and sneaker waves can suddenly wash people off of beaches or rocks and capsize small boats nearshore.
Swimmers are warned to take care and stay near occupied lifeguard towers and never swim alone. If caught in a rip current remember to swim parallel to the shore.
