When it comes to municipal elections in Los Angeles, low voter turnout seems to be the trend When Mayor Eric Garcetti was elected in 2013, only about 21 percent of all registered voters showed up for the election. When Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa ran for re-election in 2009, turnout was just 18 percent.
This year, people who Vote By Mail can send in their ballots and if you’re not already registered to vote you have until February 21st to do so online. If you miss voter registration, a new law allows you to register to vote on election day. However, you must go to the county elections office and fill out a conditional ballot; this gives officials time to check your eligibility.
