After a morning spent frantically searching the waters off Venice Beach the man who was seen jumping off the Venice Beach Pier early this morning has been found inside his home with no reported injuries, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrea Anderson.
LA County Fire Department and the US Coast Guard had been searching Venice Beach this for hours this morning after it was reported a 39-year-old man was missing after he jumped off the Venice Beach pier.
Just before 2:30 a.m., officials received reports that a person had
jumped off the pier in the 3000 block of Ocean Front Walk, according to the Los
Angeles County Fire Department. A lifeguard and a witness saw the man, identified as David Matthew Rose, leave his things on the pier and dive into the water, authorities said.
After a seven-hour search using boats, helicopters and rescue divers, authorities located the man who had been seen jumping off the Venice Beach Pier safe at home.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Fire Department searched for
the missing swimmer using at least three ocean vessels, two helicopters and
dive crews, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Deputies went to the man’s residence at about 9:50 a.m. and found him
unharmed, according to a watch commander with the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s
Station.
Los Angeles County lifeguards reminded the public via Twitter that it is
illegal to jump off the pier. It was not immediately clear whether any charges were filed.
