Gusty west to northwest winds will affect much of southwest California today and expect the blustery conditions to continue throughout tonight in Venice Beach.
The National Weather Service says a cold upper level trough over Northern California will dive southward through the day and this, in combination with a strong onshore flow, will bring the widespread, gusty winds.
Capable of downing trees and downing power lines in some locations, the strongest winds today will occur across the Antelope Valley. Damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and restricted visibilities due to blowing dust are likely.
West winds will increase to between 15 to 25 mph with damaging gusts to 40 mph this afternoon. The blustery conditions are expected to persist through mid-evening. Winds will be strongest this afternoon and evening, with the National Weather Service in Los Angeles saying the wind advisory will remain in effect until 9pm tonight
Precautions can be taken to avoid property damage by securing all loose outdoor furniture in advance of the onset of the strongest winds. When driving use extra caution and be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds.
