Last week we went to a neighborhood meeting regarding “Local” the new restaurant which will open next to Other Room at 1205 Abbot Kinney. Both businesses are owned by Craig Weiss and the neighborhood meeting was a non-mandatory one that Weiss set up to speak with the community.
Weiss described “Local” as a New York style deli with a patio out back and some seating on the street that would also have an oyster bar. Weiss’s expeditor found a loophole in regard to parking requirements, so they are no longer required to provide for additional parking when the new business opens. “Local” will be open until 3 am.
The meeting was fairly heated, with surrounding residents seemingly unhappiest about the fact the business would remain open until 3am. Weiss and his presentation partners did a good job explaining the motivation they have in staying open so late, and the community did a good job explaining they didn’t want the noise it will generate by staying open so late.
At some point in October the final city permitting will take place.
