Mayor Eric Garcetti is inviting high school students in Venice to apply for the Mayor’s Youth Council. His office is looking for highly motivated 10th and 11th graders who are interested in civic engagement, community and youth issues, and the municipal government system.
The goal of the Youth Council is for young Angelenos to learn about civic engagement, while expressing their own views on how to improve government and effect change in their communities.
The Youth Council meets monthly to take part in workshops and discuss the issues affecting their community, as well as Los Angeles at-large. There are also quarterly meetings during which the eight Youth Councils get together to meet up.
Youth Council members have the opportunity to meet many figures working inside of, outside of, and in partnership with, government. They will also work on creating a long-term project that will affect their community.
The deadline to submit is Friday September 16, 2016
