Shortly after 8 pm this evening, there was a shooting at the Oakwood Recreation Center in Venice at 767 California.
A witness heard 8 shots, followed by one person yelling “I’ve been shot”. The shooting took place by the picnic tables in the park. As of 9:30 pm, no official word has been released by the LAPD on what happened.
Update 10 pm: LAPD is still on scene. After speaking with SGT. Gonzalez of the LAPD Pacific Division, at this point in time it appears that the shooting was not random, but “targeted” in that the shooter and victim likely knew each other. For this reason, the LAPD does not think Oakwood Park neighbors are in any immediate danger, although it is always best to lock all of your doors when you are at home.
The shooting victim, a male black in his 40’s, is believed to be in OK shape. The shooter, a male Hispanic of roughly the same age, has not been apprehended as of 10pm.
