COVID-19 Mandates: Another Consideration for Venice Job Seekers To Ponder

Although more than half the country says they’re willing to get vaccinated when the COVID-19 vaccines are available, some aren’t ready to take that path. Some people are fearful about the side effects, caught up in conspiracy theories, or simply not interested in a vaccine of any kind. Then there are individuals with religious practices and disabilities that prevent them from getting the vaccine. Be that as it may, some employers are considering their right to issue a COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

If you’re currently looking for a job, this might come as a surprise. While you could be quick to anger or despair, it’s best to learn a bit more. Continue reading for advice.

Yes, They Can Issue Mandates

The first thing you need to note is that employers can issue mandates for new and existing employees to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine before they can work. This is ideal for companies that employ essential workers. It also comes with a few restrictions. Thanks to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title IV, employees who follow certain religions that prevent vaccines are exempt. Employees with disabilities that would make getting the vaccine unsafe are also exempt, thanks to the American Disabilities Act.

Most Employers Have Opted Out

Despite having permission from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to issue a COVID-19 mandate, most employers have opted to take a different route. Why? Well, there are so many liabilities and ramifications that haven’t been addressed. If they start requiring these vaccines and an employee files a legitimate complaint or lawsuit, it could be an uphill battle. So, many companies have decided to offer their employees and new hires incentives to get the vaccine instead.

Assess How You Feel

Although this is a lot to think about before searching for a job, you must consider how you feel. Are you for or against getting a vaccine? If you are against the vaccine, what are your reasons for it? Are you afraid you might have an adverse reaction to the shots? Does it go against your religion?

The reason you want to evaluate how you’re feeling is that you’ll need to present this information to any potential employers that ask. Knowing where you stand and having the confidence or data to back it up is the best approach. It shows that you’re proactive and gives them an opportunity to make an informed decision about whether to offer you a position.

Gather Necessary Documents

If you’re exempt from getting the COVID-19 vaccine, make sure that you have the documentation to back it up – especially if you really want the job. Before you complete any applications, submit your resume, or even undergo background checks, gather whatever you need to prove your case. This may include a letter from your religious leader or healthcare provider. You’ll want to keep copies of this on your computer and print them to distribute to any employers with a COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

Ask In Advance

Before getting your hopes up about working for a particular company, it’s best to find out where they stand on the whole COVID-19 workplace mandate. Although this is a relatively new concept, the essential policies can be found on the company website or job listings. If you can’t find the information there, then reach out to a human resources employee to ask. They shouldn’t have any issues letting you know their policies and what that means for applicants and new hires. If they have a mandate and you’re not in agreeance, then you can avoid the song and dance and move on to companies that don’t have such strict policies.

First, there were no jobs and little financial assistance; now, there’s the COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Venice residents (like citizens across the US) have gone through a lot to survive this past year. If you’re presently looking for a job, don’t hesitate to use the information above to stay informed and navigate these murky waters to gainful employment.
