On June 13, 2010, at an after Prom party on Louella Street in Venice, a car drove by, rolled the window down a couple of inches and fired toward a group of boys standing outside the house. Michael “Mikey” McGuire Jr. (21) and another unnamed boy (18) were hit. The 18 year old was grazed. Mikey was hit in the back of the head and was declared brain dead on June 14.
On June 16, before he was taken off life support, his parent’s donated 8 of Mikey’s organ’s. Seven recipients were local and one was out of state. Of the seven locals two were children. His parent’s unselfish decision to donate Mikey’s organs so that others would have a second chance at life is something Mikey would have been proud of.
This Saturday, June 18 at 10:30 am, will be the 1st Annual Paddle-out for Mikey McGuire Jr. at Venice Beach, Venice Pier (North Side). The McGuire Family would like to invite you to attend.
We don’t want Mikey to be forgotten, we don’t want this to become another “cold case”, we don’t want people to forget this was a senseless murder. His family and friends want justice for Mikey.
Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Mikey’s death. If you have any information on this crime, please call the LAPD Pacific Division at 310-482-6334. There is a $50,000 reward.
