Divisions Include Awards for the Heaviest Halibut, Overall Heaviest Fish, White Seabass, and More
Marina Del Rey Anglers and CCA CAL announced the 49th Annual MDR Halibut Derby, welcoming anglers of all ages and experience levels. The event, held within the Santa Monica Bay, offers opportunities for boaters, kayakers, and shore anglers to participate.
Participants can charter local boats in Marina Del Rey or Redondo Beach for the event, which includes membership in MDR Anglers and IGFA. Divisions include awards for the heaviest halibut, overall heaviest fish, white seabass, and more, with special recognitions for youth, women, kayak anglers, and clubs.
New side jackpots have been introduced, adding excitement to the competition. Additionally, the Betty O out of Marina Del Rey offers a special Sat-Sun Derby charter for interested participants.
Fishing begins at sunrise on Saturday, June 1st, and concludes on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at 3 pm. Weigh-in docks are open at Burton Chace Park on both days.
Captains are reminded to judge their travel time well, adhering to speed limits in the harbor. A 25% bonus is offered for live released fish, emphasizing the importance of keeping fish alive with ample sea water.
