How Venice Beach Football Club is Turning Residents into Soccer Fans.

In an area of the city where criticisms of gentrification and individualization are frequently leveled, it’s always encouraging to see residents coming together and creating inclusive spaces of community, support and pride. Venice Beach Football Club (VBFC) is one of those places!

Across the country, soccer is on the up. From the MLS signing a contract with superstar Lionel Messi to the NWSL and the U.S. Women’s National Team with back to back FIFA World Cup wins under their belt, North America is starting to give the Europeans a run for their money.

In 2016 The Supreme Court overturned PASPA which had, until then, stifled the sports betting industry. Since then, over 30 states have reconsidered their position on sportsbooks and legalized the practice. In California, soccer betting is not legal yet, but Colorado has great promos which many sports enthusiasts take advantage of to add a further level of excitement to the game.

In the heart of the vibrant Venice, California neighborhood, this local football club has been making waves and capturing the hearts of residents with its passion for soccer. VBFC is not just your average sports team; it’s a movement that aims to unite people, celebrate the beautiful game and inspire a new generation of soccer fans right here in Venice.

The Birth of VBFC

VBFC started as an idea between two friends, Tim Walsh and Dillon Chapman who shared a common love for soccer. Back in 2016, they were both playing on a local team and had the dream to create a club that could represent the neighborhood and feel like hom.

They set about amassing a handful of dedicated individuals, united by their passion for the sport and a desire to create something special within their community. With the stunning backdrop of Venice Beach and the energetic spirit that permeates the neighborhood, VBFC was born.

The VBFC Experience

From humble beginnings, the group has grown into a huge community-led movement of the sport. VBFC offers an experience that goes beyond the traditional notion of a football club.

It’s not just about the wins and losses; it’s about creating a vibrant, inclusive and engaging environment for soccer enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Seasoned players looking for a competitive outlet and beginners wanting to kick a ball around for the first time, are both welcomed with open arms.

Throughout a series of high profile collaborations, the club has raised its international recognition. The Estadio (the name of the team’s home ground) has welcomed global superstars in the form of Manchester City hero Shaun Wright-Phillips, who brought the English Premier League trophy with him for locals to catch a glimpse of.

French forward and World Cup Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappé also dropped by the club and brought his boots with him. Local kids got to play alongside one of their heroes, a moment we’re sure they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

Here’s what makes VBFC stand out:

  • Community Engagement – VBFC understands the importance of community involvement, it’s been a guiding principle since the club’s inception. Events, workshops and outreach programs are regularly organized to promote the love of soccer among Venice residents. From youth clinics to charity matches, they are committed to nurturing the local soccer culture.
  • Diverse Membership – VBFC prides itself on its diverse membership base, bringing together individuals from various backgrounds, cultures and skill levels. They believe that diversity breeds creativity, learning and a stronger sense of camaraderie.
  • Athletic Excellence – While fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere, VBFC also takes its performance on the field seriously. The club fields competitive teams that participate in local leagues and tournaments, striving for excellence while representing the spirit of Venice.
  • Homegrown Talent – VBFC doesn’t just attract talented players from around the city; they are passionate about nurturing and developing local talent as well. Through their youth programs and dedicated coaching staff, they provide opportunities for young athletes in the area to hone their skills and pursue their dreams.

Join the VBFC Movement

Whether you’re a lifelong soccer fan or someone curious about the beautiful game, VBFC welcomes you to be part of their growing family. They invite anyone to come down to the beach, feel the sand beneath their feet and witness the magic of VBFC firsthand.

The club is committed to the goals that they set out when VBFC was just an idea and they are dedicated to expanding across the city – offering more folks the chance to share in the same energy that they’ve created at the Estadio.

There are many ways for people to get involved and embrace the spirit of community – from cheering on the sidelines to lacing up their own boots and joining a team. So come together, support local talent and let the love of soccer unite us all in the one and only Venice Beach Football Club.
