On Tuesday, 44 year-old Michael Fino turned himself into the Los Angeles Police Department as the perpetrator of an assault near Venice Beach that was captured on video and circulated online. Fino was booked on suspicion of felony battery.
On September 25th, the video was released, depicting a mid-40s man punching a woman outside of a storefront on Venice Beach. At the time of the attack, the man’s face was visible in the video, and police had identified a suspect, but not released a name.
The full video shows the woman interrupting a conversation between Fino and a homeless man, near the intersection of Pacific and Windward Avenues close to the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Later, they ran into each other within the store, before the assault occurred outside, which knocked the woman onto the ground.
“The man was speaking to a homeless man and the woman intervened, telling him to leave him alone,” said Sgt. Gregory Probst of the L.A.P.D.’s Pacific Division.
As seen in the video, there were many witnesses to the assault, including one man who tried to detain Fino, who was thrown over his shoulder and onto the ground.
