Westminster School Seeks Local Artist to Create Permanent Mosaic Installation

From The Westminster Endowment Group:

The “Mural Capital of the World” will get a new, permanent installation right in the heart of Venice next year. The Westminster Endowment Group is pleased to announce commencement on the WE Mosaic Project which will facilitate the creation of a large-scale mosaic mural to be installed on the Westminster Avenue Elementary School’s exterior located at 1010 Abbot Kinney in Venice, California.

The Endowment has put out an open call for a local mosaic artist to work with students to design this lasting artwork. The piece will be created with the “hands-on” participation of students, parents, teachers and community members. The completed mural is scheduled to be mounted on the front façade of the school in the Spring of 2014.

“Venice has a rich tradition of public mural art and I hope that the WE Mosaic piece will be a spectacular addition to our neighborhood’s permanent collection,” said Danielle Sager-Ebling, President of the Westminster Endowment Group. “We see this not only as an opportunity to showcase a wonderful piece of art, but inspire a connection between our school and the community through the collaborative process of creating the mosaic and sharing it together for many, many years to come.”

The WE Mosaic Project will be funded entirely by private grants and individual donations and directed by a committee made up of parents, teachers and staff of Westminster Avenue Elementary School, as well as Venice community members.

“This is an amazing opportunity for an artist to have their work permanently on display on one of the most popular, vibrant and artistic streets in America,” added Kait Miroyan, Westminster parent and creative director of the project. “We can’t wait to find the right person who will be inspired by our amazing children and unique community to make something very special and very Venice.”

Artists, volunteers, donors, or anyone else interested in supporting the WE Mosaic Project should contact the committee directly at: wemosaic@gmail.com

The project can also be followed on Facebook by liking the “WE Mosaic Project.”
