A twin-engine Cessna Citation business jet that was landing at the Santa Monica Airport this evening at approximately 6:30 pm went off the runway and crashed into a plane hangar. The plane is believed to have departed from Hailey, Idaho (the airport that serves Sun Valley).
Thanks to A.J. and his friend for the video.
As of now, it is unclear if there are injuries , or how many people were on board. Hopefully they are safe, but it does not look good.
Update:
The Malibu Times says “Malibu resident and building company owner Mark Benjamin and his son Luke are believed to have been onboard”. In a statement issued by Benjamin’s company Morley Builders on Monday morning, company Vice President Charles Muttillo said details of the crash remained unclear.
“We are aware of a plane crash at Santa Monica Airport last night,” Muttillo said. “While we do not have specific facts, we believe that our President and CEO, Mark Benjamin, and his son, Luke Benjamin, a Senior Project Engineer with us were on board. We are unable to issue a further statement at this time. We will provide you with more updates as soon as we learn of them.”
