National Weather Service: Red Flag Warning

Get your candles out! From the National Weather Service:

High wind warning issued November 30 at 5:47pm pst expiring December 01 at 2:00am pst by nws Oxnard …Very strong wind event with damaging winds likely in portions of southwestern California through Friday… .A cold low pressure system will move down the California Nevada state line tonight.

At the same time strong surface high pressure will build into the great basin. These two systems will align in a way favorable for a very strong offshore wind event starting this evening and lasting into Friday afternoon. Strong and damaging winds are expected for the mountains and valleys of… Ventura and Los Angeles counties…As well as the Los Angeles county coastal areas.

The Santa Barbara county mountains and adjacent south coast will also experience very strong gusty winds this evening through the overnight hours. Residents in the warning area are advised to take precautions now before the winds reach their peak. Close all windows and secure all outdoor objects such as lawn furniture. Gusty northerly winds will also affect portions of San Luis Obispo…As well as the antelope valley where blowing dust and sand will limit driving visibility through this evening. There are wind advisories are in effect for these areas.

…High wind warning now in effect until noon pst Friday… * winds…Northeast 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph below passes and canyons from Malibu to the Hollywood hills. * timing…Winds will increase this evening and then remain very strong and gusty through Friday morning…Except for a period of weaker winds Thursday afternoon and early Thursday evening. * impacts…Very strong winds will be capable of downing trees and power lines…Knocking down outdoor objects… Creating flying debris…And causing dangerous driving conditions especially for high profile vehicles.
