Want to shape your own surfboard? Check out the new Shaper Supply Co. that is opening in Mar Vista! A shaping class (you end up with a board at the end) could be a great holiday gift for that surfer in your life!
From Shaper Supply Co.:
Next week marks the opening of Shaper Supply Co., located in Mar Vista. The company carries a wide selection of high-quality surfboard shaping tools and materials, along with apparel made for the workshop. The unique space is not only a supplier, but an active workshop, complete with shaping bays that are open to the public.
The shop was built for the largest, coastal, surf-oriented US city, Los Angeles, and its growing population of DIY surfers taking surfboard shaping into their own hands. Ask any surfer, and one of their “bucketlist” items is to shape their own surfboard. For that reason, Shaper Supply Co. also offers a 4-hour introductory lesson to completely hand-shape a surfboard. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that has never been offered before in Los Angeles. For more information regarding shaping lessons, please click here.
The company will also hold free biweekly workshops, each hosted by a different local craftsman. In addition to the surf industry, workshop subjects range from t-shirt screen-printing to creating motorcycle helmets, as the resins and materials that Shaper Supply Co. offers is also used in many other arts.
The company will celebrate its opening by hosting a small party next week, Wednesday, November 21, 2012 from 6-9pm. Stop by to view surf-inspired art installation by John Culqui, enjoy complimentary libations and music; and to check out the shaping bays in action, as there will be a live shaping demo. Feel free to do some early holiday shopping for your loved one who loves surfing because there will be exclusive sales this evening as well!
