Earlier today the Venice Japanese American Memorial Marker Committee (VJAMM) held a commemoration ceremony at the northwest corner of Lincoln and Venice to observe the 70th anniversary of the horrific Japanese American internments which started in 1942.
During the ceremony a life-sized replica of the VJAMM memorial monument that will be placed at the intersection was unveiled, as seen in the pictures below.
Participants in the ceremony included Manzanar survivors, Councilman Bill Rosendahl, Rev. John Iwohara, Neighborhood Council President Linda Lucks, Jill Prestup of the Venice Historical Society, Todd von Hoffman of the Venice Heritage Foundation, Jim Smith of the Free Venice Beachhead, Nikki Gilbert of VJAMM and Ester Chaing, the owner of Hama Sushi.
