Arts Organizations: Read Up, Yo!

la county arts

From The LA County Arts Commission:

Arts organizations considering applying to the Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s Organizational Grant Program (OGP) can learn valuable skills in grant writing in general, as well as the details of the changed grant guidelines at seven workshops throughout Los Angeles County between September 27 and November 10. The workshops, which are free, will be held at the following locations and dates:

Santa Clarita, City Hall Council Chambers, September 27
Downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, September 29
North Hollywood, Lankershim Arts Center, October 9
San Pedro, Grand Vision Foundation, October 13
Cerritos, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, October 18
Pomona, Pomona Public Library, November 2
Leimert Park, LA Commons, November 10

All workshops include a section on the specifics of the OGP application. In an effort to provide more flexibility for OGP applicants during these challenging financial times, the Arts Commission now allows small and mid-sized budget applicants (OGP I, OGP II and OGP 2.5) to request support for their current organizational needs rather than projects relating to specific areas of organizational growth as required in the past.

The second section of each workshop varies. A section on writing proposals to fund arts education programs will be offered for the first time at the San Pedro workshop October 13. “Arts Education: Standards-based Proposal Writing” will focus on building strong applications that align with the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) content standards for California schools and provide outstanding curriculum samples.

The workshops in downtown L.A. on September 29 and in Cerritos October 18 include grants staff “office hours.” Staff will be available to provide guidance and answer burning grant application questions and provide information about other Arts Commission opportunities.

New applicants and applicants that did not receive funding the last time they applied to the Organizational Grant Program are required to attend a workshop, but the workshops are designed to benefit L.A. County-based non-profit arts organizations of all sizes.
