The Young Storytellers Foundation is in need of volunteers, and this is a great way for Venice Beach writers and creative types to help out some students! To find out more and volunteer, please email Venice resident and YSF organizer Ashley by clicking here. An hour of your time donated once a week may inspire a child for the rest of their life!
From YSF:
The Young Storytellers Foundation offers a uniquely engaging and effective arts education and youth development program at elementary schools around Los Angeles where students are at-risk or have little access to the arts.
Mentors will volunteer from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays at Palms Elementary School on the Westside for 7 weeks to guide and encourage the students as they develop their own screenplays. Mentors work one-on-one with students at each meeting of the program, which runs from January 22nd to March 12th, with an optional follow-up session on Friday, March 26th.
On March 19th, professional actors perform the students’ scripts for a live audience. Seeing actors like Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) Tate Donovan (Damages), and Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace), not only take the students’ screenplays seriously, but brilliantly act out their work, is transformative.
