Authorities have released the name of a man who
was fatally injured by an SUV while helping to attach the vehicle to a boat trailer in Marina del Rey.
Antonio Jalog Smith, 41, of Corona, was killed about 3:20 p.m. Saturday at Dock 77 at 13650 Mindanao Way, according to Assistant Los Angeles County Coroner Chief Ed Winter.
The driver, 64-year-old Romulo Perez of Los Angeles, was backing up a 1999 Ford Expedition to a boat trailer as Smith, who was assisting, stood to the rear of the SUV, which was reversed at “unsafe speeds,” according to a California Highway Patrol statement.
After hitting the man, the SUV continued going backward and struck a Hyundai Genesis and a Dodge Charger, the CHP reported. Perez was not arrested, but the fatality remains under investigation.
