We are saddened to report that there was a fatal stabbing on Ocean Front Walk near Westminster Avenue, just after 6 pm this evening. A witness said that the fight began when two young transients argued over a beer. The murder suspect was apprehended by the LAPD several blocks away.
The LATimes reports: Los Angeles Police Sgt. Richard Parks said one man stabbed the other eight or nine times in the abdomen during the fight.
The victim died at Marina del Rey Hospital. No one else was injured.
The identities of the men were not released by the LAPD.
Update: The Associated Press report that the victim was 38-year-old Kevin Hirtle, a transient. The alleged killer was 23-year-old Billy Young, also a transient.
