Exercising in California: Where, When, & How

It’s no secret that California is known for exercise. Between the vanity of Hollywood, the beautiful weather, and the number of great gyms and places to exercise, California has become one of the places famous for working out. Whether you live in the Golden State or are thinking about moving here, the culture is unique. Exercise is a part of California’s culture. Below is some information about exercising in California, including where, when, and how to work out in the state.

Exercise Outside

The weather in California is famous. There are so many sunny days a year that it is commonplace—unremarkable. It is hot out, which makes the state a perfect place to exercise outdoors. Of course, Venice is known for Muscle Beach, where bodybuilders lift weights near the water on the boardwalk. There is also no shortage of places to hike. You could go swimming or kayaking. You also don’t have to do an activity to exercise outside. You can work out somewhere beautiful like the beach or the mountains. Whatever version of outdoor exercise you want to take advantage of California has it all. It is a great place to work out in the mountains, near the beach, or through the hills.

Use the Many Gyms

It isn’t all outdoor exercise in California even though the weather is gorgeous. Californians also love gyms. Whether you are looking for gyms in Bakersfield or a bigger city like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego, you will be able to find all kinds of options. There are gyms for all budgets and styles. Do you want bare bones and cheap? Do you want to have all the amenities you can think of? Are you looking for a particular exercise class? Whatever strikes your fancy can be found here in California. Just do a little research to discover the best gym for you.

Participate in Exercise Trends

California is a place that sets trends. Whether it’s the movies, music, fashion, or exercise, the state is known for creating new ideas and going into new directions. The workout culture is no different. In California, hiking is more of a trend than it is a lifestyle. Have you noticed that yoga has become extremely popular around the country? This craze began in California. What about spin? Spin is in-place cycling that is led by an instructor. These instructors are known for motivating and exhausting their clients, in a good way. Since California has amazing weather, great trails, bike lanes, and more, you can travel as your workout. Riding a bike on the many paths that connect roads to nature, you can get where you need to go and get an incredible workout. Furthermore, skateboarding was born in California. Ride a skateboard where you need to go, sweat it out, and enjoy yourself. You could even run where you are going. With so many days of sun, traveling in California can also be your workout.

In the Morning, In the Evening

If you want to exercise outdoors in California but want to avoid the heat, you can exercise in the morning and the evening. The morning is particularly a great time to workout in California. It can be sunny but cool. After work, an evening jog, bike ride, or lift outdoors is quite enjoyable. When you want to be outside, you don’t have to endure the heat. Just do it at the right time.

Exercise is such a big part of California’s culture and way of life. The state is known for entertainers who are expected to be fit and look good. This has created a culture of working out unlike anywhere else in the world. When you want to exercise outdoors, find a great gym, partake in some workout trends, and find the best way for you to lose some weight, tone your body, and build some muscle, there is no place better than California. Dive into the state’s exercise culture and find that you can get into shape in an environment where it is normal to run on the street or workout by the beach.
