Sunday, July 12 the best way to get pickled is in Venice at the Los Angeles Fermentation Festival.
Showcasing local experts who will share the benefits and how-to of fermented foods as well as samples, the all day event will happen at the Venice Arts Plaza a 685 Venice Blvd., Venice.
It is the first time the Festival, which began in Santa Barbara in 2011, has been held in Los Angeles.
Lauren Tucker, Education and Garden Director at Kiss the Ground explains that the event organizers approached Kiss the Ground to ask about using the Venice Arts Plaza space at 685 Venice Blvd
Tucker says “I feel really excited about the festival. The message is about the importance of gut health as it relates to human health and soil is the same. Just as gut health is important to human health so to is soil health important to plant, and therefore, food health”
“Soil has billions of microbes, beneficial bacteria, and fungi. Just like our own bodies have billions of microbes. If you look at it this way you see the overall connection between planetary health and human health.” says Tucker.
Profits from the event will directly benefit Kiss the Ground, Beyond Baroque, and SPARC. All three organizations making up the space that is the Venice Arts Plaza.
As well as a delicious array of fermented food and beverages to sample, there will be workshops on fermentation and Kiss the Ground will run a workshop on composting.
For those over 21 there will also be a Farm-to-Bar area…wine is just after all fermented grapes!
