Earlier this week, a group of 35 or so local revelers torched an estimated 25 Christmas trees on the sands of Venice Beach near 20th Ave.

Some traditions have it that Christmas trees should not be burned, while others say the ritual should take place on either Candlemas Eve, Twelfth Night or Shrove Tuesday to help the pancake fires.
Whatever your beliefs may be, may you have peace, health and happiness in 2014!
(FYI to all the unmarried girls in Venice that were given mistletoe by a suitor: folklore says that when burning mistletoe, steady flames are a good sign! If the mistletoe “splutters” the dude might make a “cross and bad-tempered husband”!)
