From Councilman Rosendahl:
The Mar Vista Community Council invited the City’s Ratepayer Advocate to their meeting next week to give a presentation on the power rate proposals.
Councilmember Bill Rosendahl asked MVCC Chair Sharon Commins to allow Dr. Fred Pickel to give the presentation at their meeting on Tuesday, September 11th, a day before the Board of Water and Power Commission is expected to vote on the proposed rate increase by the Department of Water and Power.
“I felt there was a need for further public vetting on this extremely important issue,” said Rosendahl, who is also a Mar Vista resident. ”I felt it was essential that there be at least one public meeting for all Westside residents on the proposed power rate increase prior to any DWP Board action. The Ratepayer Advocate needs to provide an objective analysis and hear public testimony on how the rate increase will affect the lives of my constituents.”
Pickel will give a 20 minute presentation, then take questions and hear public input about the proposals.
Pickel recently released a presentation in which he defended the DWP power rate increase. The PA Consulting Group also released a report on the rate proposals.
The voters of the City created the Ratepayer Advocate position in March 2011. Pickel was appointed to the position in February 2012.
Commins has agreed to open up the meeting to constituents in neighboring council districts. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
