On May 17th, The Surfers Coalition will sponsor a “fundraiser and awareness event” in opposition to the Malibu Lagoon Restoration and Enhancement Plan at Duke’s Malibu Restaurant starting at 6pm. The fundraiser will feature “Work to Surf“, a documentary about surfer and “man about Venice” Allen Sarlo, a silent auction, taco plate buffet and bake sale, DJ, Music, book signings, karoke and celebrity guest appearances.
The California State Parks Malibu Lagoon Restoration and Enhancement Plan (which will bulldoze 14 acres and 90,000 cubic yards of Malibu lagoon and wetland) is scheduled to start on June 1st, but opponents of the controversial plan to drain, dredge, bulldoze and reconstruct the western channels of the Malibu Lagoon continue to fight the project.
