Legendary Venice Boardwalk performer Swami X, who “retired” from performing on the boardwalk in 1985 at the age of 59, was taken to the emergency room at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica earlier today due to complications stemming from a recent broken hip. (Update: he is now safely back at home at Councilman Rosendahls!). Now 86 years old, Swami X continues to be a valued contributor to The Free Venice Beachhead Newspaper and also the subject of a new documentary by Venetian Tony Vera.
Flowers and “Get Well” cards from friends and fans can be sent to Councilman Rosendahl’s office at 1645 Corinth Avenue, #201 LA, CA 90025!
Tony Vera was at Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s home working on his documentary when Swami X was taken to the hospital. (Councilman Rosendahl took Swami X into his home over a decade ago and has been providing him with medical care ever since – if you want to help, do!).
What follows is part of the video taken by Tony Vera today.
The video is painfully personal, but Swami X asked Tony to share it as it is “all part of life”. Best of wishes to Swami X and all of his friends! It is wonderful that the Councilman is able to be there for this Venice legend.
