From The Venice Neighborhood Council:
The Venice Neighborhood Council Board will hear about regulation changes impacting Venice Beach at its meeting on February 21, 2012. Both the City of Los Angeles and the County will be on hand to discuss the changes. The meeting will be held in the Westminster Elementary School Auditorium, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice starting at 7PM.
The Los Angeles Police Department will report on enforcement of the new ordinance regulating vendors (42.15) that went into effect last month. Officers and representatives for LAS City Council Office 11 will also be available to answer questions about the curfew rules for Venice Beach and Ocean Front Walk.
Officials from LA County will discuss new rules relating to activities permitted at Venice Beach. The rules, describing beach operations, were originally written 40 years ago, with minor updates 20 years ago. They regulate many activities, including playing with balls and Frisbees at the beach as well as describing Life Guard duties, responsibilities and supervision. The Board of Supervisors approved a major overhaul of the regulations at their January meeting to bring them up to date. The rule changes have created controversy in the community because they have been described in the press as imposing new restrictions on beach activities and, at the same time, relaxing restrictions on those same activities.
In other business, the Board will elect new officers to replace vacancies and hear motions aimed at better understanding the impact on local residents of a major development in Santa Monica, Bergamot Transit Village.
Snacks and coffee will be provided at the meeting.
A detailed agenda will be posted on the internet at www.VeniceNC.org and at posting places in the community.
There is no charge for this event. It is open to the public. Comments are encouraged.
