On December 8th from 7-9:00 pm, the Gebert Gallery on Abbot Kinney will host an opening reception for artist Betty Gold’s “Past/Present“.
From the Gebert Gallery:
Betty Gold is a Venice, California based artist who has been a pioneer in the world of sculpture for over forty years. Betty is one of the most world renowned female sculptors and is still actively pursuing her craft.
The focus of this retrospective exhibit, “Betty Gold Past / Present”, is a series of unique anthropomorphic and geometric bronze sculptures created by Betty in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, which were most recently on display at her retrospective exhibition in Mallorca, Spain.
This exhibition also features some of Betty’s large scale steel sculptures and paintings from the same period, as well as more recent works. While best known for her large scale steel sculptures, which have been collected and widely exhibited around the world, “Past / Present” features many of her smaller scale bronze sculptures capturing a more intimate side of Betty’s creative mind, body and soul.
Betty was born in 1935 in Austin, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Betty is actively producing work today and is tireless when it comes to new concepts and ideas. She is a passionate believer in the geometric concept and has said “It never becomes tiresome as I continue to find new ways in which to express its truth and universality. Every new project is like the first – challenging, fulfilling and exciting.” Betty is very proud to be featured in Lyn Kienholz’s book “LA Rising: SoCal Artists Before 1980”.
Most of Betty’s sculptures are commissioned works for both public and private collections. Betty’s sculptures and paintings are in countless permanent museum collections, as well as very prominent public and private collections around the world.
