The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors will again offer its popular Bird Watching Program in Burton Chace Park beginning April 15th. The outing begins with a brief lecture on an avifauna related topic and an overview of the Ballona Wetlands. The group will get the opportunity to observe various bird species compete for resources in the shoreline and vegetation habitat while visiting the Great Blue Heron and Black Crowned Night Heron nesting sites.
Dates and times for the 2010 Bird Watching Program are: April 15th, 4 pm; May 20th, 9 am; and June 17th, 4 pm. Excursions are presented at no cost, but pre-registration is essential. Each outing is approximately two hours long. Recommended items to bring for the duration of the tour are water, a snack, sunscreen, appropriate attire, and binoculars.
