Wonder why the refinery down by El Porto was shooting flames into the sky yesterday? From Dow Jones Newswires:
An unplanned compressor problem affecting a large processing unit caused a refinery outage at Chevron’s (CVX) El Segundo, Calif. refinery, Chevron officials confirmed Friday evening. Rod Spackman, a spokesman for Chevron, said there were no injuries or deaths.”There was a great deal of flaring with associated smoke in the area lasting approximately one and one half hours,” he said. Spackman didn’t indicate which processing unit was affected, but indicated the unit is being stabilized.
Chevron’s El Segundo refinery has a crude oil processing capacity of approximately 250,000 barrels a day.
