From Elvino:
This weekend we’ll be pouring three wines made from grapes grown using Biodynamic Farming Practices.
Based on the pioneering 1920s work of scientist Rudolf Steiner, biodynamic farming offers a proactive and holistic approach to farming. By treating vineyards as complete and self-replenishing systems, biodynamic farming naturally builds soil life and vitality, while defending against pests and disease. Often confused with both organic and sustainable farming practices, biodynamic farming meets the criteria of both, while focusing on a unique set of eight naturally derived non-chemical soil and plant treatments.
NV DOMAINE ANDRE & MIREILLE TISSOT- CREMANT DU JURA, 55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir Arbois, France
This sparkler is an aromatic ringer for Champagne, nonetheless, this stylish wine boasts its own distinctive Jurassien personality- a little softer and more fruit, but redolent of almonds and spring flowers. With bottle age it takes on a scary similarity to Champagne in all its toasty glory.2006 BECKMAN VINEYARDS- CUVEE LE BEC, 50% Grenache, 28% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 7% Counoise Santa Ynez Valley
Made with grapes grown in their Purisima Mountain Vineyard, this wine is rich on the nose with sun ripened black plums and spiced red fruit in the back. The Cuvee Le Bec delivers a harvest of late summer fruits on the palate, with ripe cherry and strawberry fruit up front, and loads of juicy red and black plums following. Soft tannins and the luscious body make this for a rich and bold California pleaser.2006 CAMPO CATURESI- TOSCANO ROSSO IGT, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Old clones of Merlot, Montanina, La Bracciola, Tannet – all over 50 years old. Lucca, Tuscany, Italy
Until this very recent arrival in California, the Barsanti brothers have only really sold their wines in Lucca, and at their agritourismo. This Italian field blend shows true Old World style with saddle leather and earth leading hints of red berry on the nose. In the mouth smooth, round tannins impress with black fruit present and a pleasant, lingering finish. 167 Cases ProducedFor More Info on Biodynamic Farming, Go To: www.biodynamics.com/aboutus.
