This Sunday, June 20th, is International Surfing Day as well as Fathers Day. International Surfing Day is a global event with hundreds of cities participating around the world to celebrate the sport of surfing and create awareness for the sustainability our our ocean resources.
Started six years ago by the Surfrider Foundation and SURFING Magazine, it is a day to encourage all surfers to do a few simple things: paddle out, catch a wave, spread ocean awareness and clean their beaches. Locally, Surfrider Foundation West LA – Malibu Chapter will meet up at Santa Monica Tower 26 (Ocean Park Blvd. meets Barnard Way) from 9am – 12pm. There will be great prizes, giveaways, and free food. All levels welcome, with free surfboard/wetsuit rentals (courtesy of ZJ Boarding House) and Firewire surfboard demos (courtesy of Arbor). There will also be a live performance by La Vie.
