How To Nourish Your Inner Artist In Laguna

Most people visit Laguna Beachhead for the iconic beaches. It makes sense. There are so many beautiful hikes, vistas, and viewpoints to catch the waves—whether you stay on the shore or in the water.

If you’re heading to Southern California, you might want to spice up your trip by adding a personal art challenge to your explorations.

Here’s how to nourish your inner artist and create a personal art challenge in Laguna Beach:

Investigate Possible Vistas for Sunrise

If you’re an early morning riser, you can catch the sunrise and feel the awe coursing through your system. It’s a rush like no other.

Laguna is filled with awe-inspiring sunrise vistas. Some are easier to hike to than others. Yet, all will be well worth your time.

Among the top candidates are Heisler Park, Treasure Island, Crescent Bay Point Park, and Shaw’s Cove. If you’re looking for a stunning and private spot, Shaw’s Cove would be the first pick. You’ll find a unique gazebo overlooking the beach. Depending on tide conditions, you may be able to walk out and catch the view back across the cove.

Identify Your Top Locations

Selecting your top locations is part of the secret to having a great experience. I always like to interview locals, talk to baristas, and get the low-down on favorite spots from residents.

Seeking advice from sunrise lovers and early risers is easily one of the great ways to feel more like a local than a tourist.

Add Some Art Destinations

In many cities, you can explore human-made art as well as natural vistas. Laguna is exceptionally rich in mural and art destinations. There are over 100 pieces of public art located all over the town.

The locations break down into three main categories: South Laguna, Downtown, and The Hive. Within each of these, you’ll find remarkable murals, art pieces, and inspiration for sketching and photography.

Grab Your Supplies

With all these locations calling, I bet you’re wondering what you need to succeed as an artist.

The key thing is to have the mindset, creative outlet, and the right tools. One of the biggest decisions, especially for men, is how to carry all the gear. I think that the new brand of designer backpacks for men is the way to go. With all the options in a sleek design, you can select one to match your discriminating taste.

Look for a blend of form and function. With your art supplies in mind, look for sections, pockets, and easy access. Pick the design that matches your unique style and gives you that artistic flair you’re seeking.

My favorite way to sketch and take photos is to have all my gear with me at all times. From morning ‘til night, I have my backpack fully loaded with art gear, water, snacks, and everything I might need to capture the mood.

Nourish Your Inner Artist

Speaking of your artistic expression, this is where you can play.

If you’re a photographer at heart, you most likely have all your gear lined up. If you’re new to the pursuit of photography, start by using your phone. Many phones have great lenses and let’s face it—it’s convenient. You already have your phone with you.

On the other hand, you might be more inclined to sketch. Grab your Moleskine notebook, pencils, and colors and have them at it. The best thing about sketching is you are the master. No one is here to critique, interfere with your experience.

Often I find that blending the two mediums offers the most flexibility. Snap a photo to capture the glimmer of light and magical colors. You can refer to photographs when you’re back in your studio, home, or office.

Give yourself time and space to indulge your inner passion for beauty. Find a comfortable place to sit and sketch. Experiment with colors. Sketch forms in black and white or a single color. Play to your heart’s content. Use this moment to nourish your inner artist.

Sum Up

Laguna Beach offers a wealth of opportunities to nourish your inner artist. Whether you’re up at sunrise or catching the rays at sunset, you’ll find beauty around every corner.
