Abbot Kinney Festival Association: Community Grants

The Abbot Kinney Festival Association (AKFA) is now accepting applications for its Community Grants Program. Applications are due by September 13th, 2013!

Abbot Kinney Festival

Every year the AKFA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, donates proceeds from the Abbot Kinney Festival (Sunday, September 29, 2013 this year!) to local arts, beautification, youth, and family programs. Venice-based community organizations and non-profits are encouraged to apply for grants (maximum $5,000).

From The Abbot Kinney Festival Association (AKFA):

The AKFA has donated more than a quarter million dollars to the Venice community since the grants program began; planting gardens, building robots, sparking creativity and supporting families in need. Money from festival sponsorships, exhibitor booths, commemorative merchandise, and advertising fund the AKFA Community Grants Program.

Who’s benefiting? Past recipients include: Inside Out Community Arts, Boys and Girls Club of Venice, Westminster Avenue Endowment Group, Friends of Walgrove Elementary, Venice Arts, 826LA, reDiscover Center, The Learning Garden, STEMM Small Learning Center, Friends of Coeur d’Alene, Venice High School Robotics Club, Venice Arts Council, SPARC, A Window Between Worlds, Electric Lodge, Beyond Baroque, Venice Historical Society, Venice Community Garden, Venice Oceanarium, Venice Skateboard Association, and others. Festival proceeds will be awarded to this year’s recipients during the Abbot Kinney Festival, Sunday, September 29, 2013.

“The festival’s free and a lot of fun! But the driving force behind it all is giving back to our community – to Venice. We’re doin’ good in the ‘hood”, said Donna Humphrey, Chair, Abbot Kinney Festival Association.

The Deadline for applications is September 13, 2013.

Sunday, September 29, 2013 – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: Abbot Kinney Blvd ~ Venice Blvd. to Main St. in Venice, California.

WHAT: Southern California’s largest FREE community festival – now in its 29th year. The festival draws more than 130,000 adults and families. The mile-long stretch of Abbot Kinney Blvd. is lined with FOUR great, live music stages, a spoken word stage, dozens of artisan food vendors, popular food trucks, 300+ quality artisan and fine art exhibitor booths, and three beer gardens. The immensely popular KidsQuad has rides, family entertainment, and fun, interactive activities for all ages. The festival celebrates the diversity of creativity of Venice.

WHY: Raise money for the Community Grants Program of the Abbot Kinney Festival Association (AKFA), a not-for-profit. The nearly all-volunteer group produces the festival and donates the proceeds to organizations that specifically serve Venice.

To become a sponsor, exhibitor, advertiser, volunteer, performer, or vendor, contact festival producer Kim Sharp at (310) 396-3772 or info@abbotkinney.org.
