When You Wish, a locally based crowdfunding website where you can raise money online similar to Kickstarter or Indiegogo, is hosting a “Crowdfunding, Startups, and Investors mixer” this evening starting at 6pm. Participants will be available to talk about the nuts and bolts of “crowdfunding” and how to get involved in their “Indie Capitalism revolution.”
The company, launched earlier this year, is part of Venice’s burgeoning “Silicon Beach” tech start-up scene. They recently closed a significant angel round with investment from Whole Foods Founder & CEO John Mackey.
When You Wish bills themselves as “a new form of ‘Indie Capitalism’ that relies on each other instead of big banks and government.” Essentially they think that where politicians and corporations have failed, ordinary people can succeed at restarting the American economy by funding each other’s ideas with each other’s capital. They’ve helped raise significant money for a number of local projects such as the City Garage Theater Company and animal rescue projects working with What’s Up Dog L.A.
