From City Attorney Carmen A. Trutanich:
A couple was ordered to stay away from parts of Venice Beach following a conviction for their involvement in an attack on two victims using a skateboard. Deputy City Attorney Claudia Martin successfully prosecuted the case.
Defendant Ashley Berg, 21, entered a no contest plea to one count of brandishing a weapon and was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation and time served in County Jail. A protective order was also issued for the victims in the case. Defendant Berg was also ordered to stay off of the roadway of Hollywood Boulevard and the sidewalks of the Western Corridor (Western Avenue between 20th and Florence), except for lawful business, based on prior prostitution convictions. As a result of this case, Defendant Berg was also sentenced to serve 90 days in the County Jail for violating her existing probations for prostitution.
Defendant Savoy Anderson, 33, entered a no contest plea to one count of battery and was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation and 30 days in County Jail. A protective order was issued for the victims in this case. As a result of this case, Defendant Anderson was sentenced to serve an additional 30 days of county jail for violating his existing probation for resisting/delaying arrest, which increased his total sentence to 60 days in the county jail.
Both Defendants Berg and Anderson were also ordered to stay away from the geographic area of Venice including Lincoln Boulevard (east) Pacific Ocean (west), Navy Street (north) and Washington Boulevard (south) for the duration of their
probation.
On April 7, 2012, two victims were walking to their parked car near 3rd Street and Rose Avenue in Venice, and were approached by Defendant Anderson who began to verbally harass the female victim. During the argument, Defendant Berg attempted to hit the female victim with a skateboard. As the male victim stepped in, he was hit in the face
with the skateboard.
Defendant Anderson then began to punch the male victim and Defendant Berg began to punch the female victim before fleeing the scene. Both defendants were later identified by the victims at the police station and police took both defendants into custody.
