Pete Thottam has resigned from the Venice Neighborhood Council.
Thottam, the VNC Education Chair, resigned after discussions brought about by his forwarding of “Educational Advocate” Rick Selan’s summary notes of the “VNC Education Meeting of July 9, 2011: A Community Concern Regarding Colocation and Murder at Penmar Park”.
Included in Selan’s notes were words that “Community Volunteer” Michael Stenger alleged were accusatory and of a “slanderous nature” regarding another Venice community member.
Stenger pointedly told Thottam “I BELIEVE YOU NEED TO PUT OUT A RETRACTION TO ALL WHO RECEIVED THIS ‘SUMMARY’ , AS WELL AS AN APOLOGY TO” the community member.
Venice Neighborhood Council President Linda Lucks agreed, telling Thottam to “please retract, apologize and write your own summary removing all editorials by Monday at the latest. If you do not, I will remove you as chair of the VNC education Committee immediately.”
Thottam’s response?
“I resign from the council.”
It is not known if Thottam was using the “weight” of his credentials on this one.
