Whether you live here, are visiting, or are hosting visitors, you may be looking for an itinerary for must-see attractions in Venice. When you only have a day to spend, it may seem impossible, but it isn’t. If you hit these hot spots, it will lead to a memorable day of fun in the sun. What’s also great is that Venice offers many outdoor attractions that are covid safe.
The Beach
Venice is, of course, known for Venice Beach. The people are eclectic and bring in tourists from all over the world. Along the boardwalk is an approximately two-mile stretch of boardwalk, which is home to shops, restaurants, and street vendors. Venice Beach is also the home to the infamous Muscle Beach, where stars such as Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger have famously worked out. Muscle Beach is a weight training facility right on the beach. Take a stroll along the beach and boardwalk and take in the atmosphere of one of the most highly visited areas of Southern California. It may not be the most family-friendly, but you are able to use the beaches with your children. Have your camera ready because there will definitely be photo ops along this stretch.
Surfing in the Venice Area
Venice Beach (and its neighbor, Santa Monica) is also known for its surfing. You will see many surfers doing their thing along the coast for you to watch and enjoy. If you don’t just want to observe, there are also local businesses you can support by taking surf lessons. If you are going to learn to surf, this would be a great place to do it.
Rent a Bike
Since the beach and boardwalk is a nice walk and route, why not enjoy it from a bike? Similar to surfing, you can find local businesses that offer bike rentals to take a ride along the beach and boardwalk. The rental companies will provide you with everything you need like a bike, helmet, tire pressure gauge, wheel pump, and maps. Why not get your exercise in?
Check Out the Famous Murals
Along the Venice Boardwalk, you will be able to see murals painted throughout. These murals are painted by local artists and businesses and involve many different subjects. These are very popular for influencers to post on their social media pages. There are self-guided tours available that you can find online.
See the Mosaic Tile House
Locals Cheri Pann and Gonzalo Duran created an art piece out of a home right in Venice. Every inch of the home is covered in mosaic tiles and is an ever-ongoing project that is open to the public to view.
Watch the Locals at the Skatepark
Another outdoor activity to do in Venice is the famous skatepark. Like Muscle Beach, it is a platform right on the beach, which gives you quite the backdrop to admire while skating. Even if you don’t want to skate, you can walk by to see others out there who know what they are doing and admire from afar. Again, this is a great people-watching spot.
Stroll Along the Canals
Once you’ve done the boardwalk, you may also want to see the canals in Venice Beach. When the beach town was first created, the canals were dug to dig up some of the marshlands. A residential street surrounds it, and the creator wanted it to look like the Venice in Europe. When you are walking through, you may get that feel. You may see homeowners getting around by boat and kayak. It is a residential area, but it still is a great spot to see for a leisurely stroll. The bridges over the canals also provide excellent spots for photo ops.
Visit Abbot Kinney Boulevard
Abbot Kinney was the millionaire who founded Venice. There is an Abbot Kinney Boulevard, which is the home to many shops and restaurants. In your adventures, you can stop along the way for a bite to eat or peruse the shops. This area is also the home to many of the murals referenced in the section above. This area is the epitome of the bohemian, cutting edge, and quirky style of the area.
