Resident Helps Venice Beach Recreation Center Get an Upgrade!

Thanks to long-time Venetian Dan Brookman, the “speed bag” area of the Venice Beach Recreation Center has been fitted with new gear.

Seeing that the area had fallen into disrepair, Brookman took it upon himself to help out. After finding out that the Parks and Recreation Department was financially strapped, Brookman contacted the Everlast Corporation and obtained a donation of the necessary equipment last month. Senior Parks and Recreation Director Victor Jauregui then secured a City work crew to come and make the necessary installations.

Brookman, a local attorney, said “It’s important to keep these recreation areas functional, as they provide a much needed facility for our neighborhood youths. I know that it’s only a relatively small contribution, but in these times, we all have to pitch in. I was glad to help”.

The speed bag area is the only such area on the entire Westside and has been used for years by aficionados of the sport. The facility is free and open to the public.
