AKFA’s Spirit of Venice Awards

During this year’s Abbot Kinney Festival, beginning at 3:45 PM on the Milkmade Stage at Andalusia Avenue, the Abbot Kinney Festival Association board of directors will recognize the 2010 recipients of the AKFA’s Spirit of Venice Awards, who were nominated by the community for their “contributions to the heart and soul of Venice”.

The recipients of the Spirit of Venice Awards for 2010 are:

• Jesse Martinez, professional skateboarder, community advocate, and co-founder of Venice Skate Park, Venice Surf & Skate Association, and Globe Industries
• Katherine Kemp, AKFA Board Member and previous owner of Ananda, for her contribution to the Festival and the entire Venice community.
• Legendary artist Earl Newman, nationally known for his original hand-designed, silk-screened poster prints (and  who also produced this year’s official festival poster, a replica of which is currently painted on The Brig facing Venice Blvd.)
• Los Angeles Fire Department Inspector Mike Neeley
• Los Angeles Police Department Sr. Lead Officer Heidi Llanes
