On May 23rd, 2010, 21-year-old Shayne Carlson jumped on his skateboard in Virginia Beach, Virginia and started heading for the Pacific Coast and the sands of Venice Beach.
Shayne set out on his cross country skateboard journey in honor and memory of his father William “Chief” Carlson, a CIA contractor who was killed during an ambush in Shkin, Afghanistan, in October 2003. Traveling an average of 50 miles a day and stopping at military bases along the way to raise funds for charities that help wounded special ops soldiers and their families, Shayne has raised over $25,000.
It is expected that on Wednesday, after a 3,200 journey, Shayne will reach the Pacific shore in Venice at 2pm. We have heard from Bobby at Venice Originals Skate Shop that following a press conference at the shop, Shane will hit the beach and the Venice Skate Park for some celebrating.
Check out Shayne’s blog here. Friend Venice Originals on FaceBook and keep up with the news!
Show some support, Venice! 2 pm Wednesday!
