Venice Neighborhood Council Meeting Tuesday, October 20, 2009

VNC

On October 20, 2009, the VNC Board will hear several applications for permitting the sale of alcoholic beverages at various locations in the community. One application is for serving beer and wine to diners at 1205 Abbot Kinney Blvd. (next to the “Other Room” at San Juan) in a restaurant to be open between 7am to 3am. Sales of bottled beverages from this location for off-site consumption are part of the permit application. Special conditions regarding hours of sale, price of products, and operations practices have been included in the proposed permit as the result of community comments received during the licensing process.

There have been an unusual number of applications for the sale of alcohol in recent months with significant community opposition to several. This has led the VNC to start a process that will end in December with the consideration of a moratorium on granting new permits.

In other business, the Council will hear two motions regarding overnight parking of vehicles.

One asks the Neighborhood Council to support a new City ordinance introduced by Councilman Bill Rosendahl that would let City Council Members establish areas in their districts where people would be allowed to park and sleep overnight. The second asks the VNC to establish a system for neighborhoods to petition for the posting of signs prohibiting parking of oversize vehicles in particular areas.

The process for electing new Officers to the Venice Neighborhood Council Board will be presented by Sophia Torres, a representative from the City Clerk’s office. Election day will be April 11, 2010. Ms. Torres will cover the timeline for nominations and the procedures to be followed for registering voters and conducting the election.

Snacks and coffee will be provided.

A detailed agenda will be posted on the internet at www.VeniceNC.org and at posting places in the community.

There is no charge for this event. It is open to the public. Comments are encouraged.
