If you are looking for a place to grab some last minute cooking items, Alan’s Market is great in a pinch. You will pay heavily for the convenience of not waiting in line at Gelson’s, Whole Foods or Ralphs, as the produce and simple household items are pretty expensive at Alan’s. Then again, Alan’s is a Mom and Pop local store that does not have bulk purchasing power like the chains, so this is understandable. Alan’s has been working on building up their great wine selections over the last year, and at this point they may be the best in our neighborhood. They don’t have any beer specials except Tecate, which isn’t the greatest … and that should be changed! The Butcher section of Alan’s is what most the locals come for. Anything that you would like to make or grill can be had here … and if you would like your meat prepared a special way just drop in the day before your bbq or dinner and ask … they will prepare anything to your liking!
