Venice Music Festival at Palms Court!

On September 19th, the Venice Community Housing Corporation will hold its annual Venice Music Festival and Jazz at Palms Court Champagne Brunch!

VCHC

This year’s line up features the Luminaries, a seven piece conscious hip hop band of MCs, poets, singers, and musicians from Venice; The 44’s, an electric blues-roots-rock band that includes “Tex” Nakamura (harmonica player for the funk band War); and Allensworth, a raw soul-funk septet known for their high intensity live shows.

Delicious eats will include Mexican fare from Venice’s Casablanca – famous for their homemade tortillas; wine and beer cash bar (a big thank you to Heineken USA), and other refreshments. Plus, a silent auction features deals on services, local wares, and one-of-a-kind experiences from local retailers, artists, and supporters. For more details or tickets at $10, click here.

A morning brunch will feature the warm Jazz vocals of Sony Holland with the Theo Saunders Trio. Brunch guests will enjoy delicious gourmet fare donated and prepared by Venice’s Off the Wall Catering, as well as donations by the Venice Farmers’ Market. This Champagne Brunch is the talk of the Westside of Los Angeles each fall and always sells out. The brunch will begin at 11:00 am at the Palms Court and tickets are $125 per person, which includes entry to the Venice Music Festival.

Venice Community Housing Corporation helps nearly 1,000 low income people each year, including formerly homeless families and at risk youth. At risk youth come to the non-profit’s YouthBuild program to earn their high school diplomas and transition out of joblessness. Like many participants in the program, recent graduate Orlando Nava, came to VCHC as a high school dropout who had recently become a young father and realized he needed to make positive changes in his life. “I thought I was going to be young forever,” he says about dropping out of school at age 16. “I wasn’t thinking about my future.” Now 25 years old and a father, he’s thankful to have gotten a second chance. He earned a high school diploma and is now studying at Santa Monica College to become a drug and alcohol counselor. Venice Music Festival, September 19, 2010, 2pm to 6pm at 743 Palms Blvd, Venice CA 90291. Tickets for the afternoon concert: $10 available at www.vchcorp.org/vmf. Cash only at door. Brunch is $125 by reservation only. For more information, call (310) 399-4100 x 103.
