Non-profit organization Send me a Penny is inviting community members who want to help feed Venice’s homeless on Christmas morning to head on down to the basketball courts at 1800 Ocean Front Walk on Thursday starting at 7 am.
This is the organization’s seventh year hosting the event where no one is turned away.
Organizers will arrive to set up at 6:30 am. Community members are encouraged to bring food between 7 am and 8 am; Food will be served between 8 am and 10 am.
Community members are urged to cook their favorite dishes and bring them to the event and feed someone in need. Organizers also hope community members are able to clean out their closets to give the homeless something clean and warm to wear during the holidays.
Need an idea of what to cook? Organizers say the following will be more than welcome: turkey, ham, chicken, ribs, sausages, chilli, cake, soda, juices, casseroles, beans, rice, potatoes, stuffing, and gravy.
They also need donations of spoons, forks, knives, cups, and plates.
Gifts urged for donation include clothing, jackets, socks, t-shirts, cosmetics, gift cards, and back packs etc.
