Venice Neighborhood Council Meetings This Week

This first full week of August features four meetings for the Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC).

VNC’s Housing Committee meets Aug. 4 at Extra Space Storage from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., where the Los Angeles County Dept. of Mental Health and the City’s Homeless Services Authority will make presentations.

At 8 a.m. on Aug. 5, VNC’s Budget & Finance Committee will convene, also at Extra Space Storage.

Several items are on the Budget & Finance agenda, including an expenditure report for July 2014, possible expansion of committee membership, a report on new checking and debit card arrangements, funding requests for September 2014, development of an internal funding request form, and “how best to maximize the use of the City funding and avoid last minute restrictions.”

With respect to the discussion on possible expansion of the committee, the Budget & Finance group of VNC currently has three members: Chair Hugh Harrison, Sylvia Aroth, and Ivan Spiegel.

The Council’s Land Use and Planning Committee (LUPC) will meet between 6:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the Oakwood Community Center.

Cases will be heard on five properties at the Aug. 5 LUPC meeting, including 320 Sunset, 600 Mildred, 2404 Boone, 665 Vernon, and 672 Brooks.

Other items up for discussion at the LUPC meeting include a complaints filed about converting garages into living spaces, the alleged non-cooperation of AT&T at 737 Washington, and Assembly Bill 2222.

A report from Sue Kaplan of the Mass, Scale & Character Ad-hoc Committee will also be made at the LPUC meeting.

Finally, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the VNC Discussion Forum Committee will meet at Macchi’s Bistro. At the meeting, committee members will discuss the Walkability Impact Disclosure Ordinance (WIDO), brainstorm ideas on the Diversity Vision Goal, and review possible bylaw amendments (including staggering 4-year terms).

The meetings at Extra Space Storage take place in the community room. Extra Space Storage is located at 658 Venice.

Oakwood Community Center is located at 767 California.

Macchi’s Bistro is located at 425 Washington.
