Abbot Kinney Merchants Continue Safe, Festive And Vibrant Atmosphere for First Fridays:
The Abbot Kinney Merchants Committee (AKMC) of the Venice Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 to reaffirm their commitment to providing a safe, festive and vibrant atmosphere on First Fridays.
The general consensus was overwhelmingly positive. Visitors, neighborhood residents and merchants all found the First Friday experience this month more pleasant. The open space reclaimed from enforced parking restrictions allowed tourists, loyal customers and the neighboring community to joyfully stroll the boulevard without the continuous congestion created by the food trucks.
To ensure continued public safety, the AKMC voted to extend “No Parking” restrictions on First Fridays for January, February and March. Abbot Kinney shop owners are exploring a number of options for a long term solution that would be of benefit to both commercial and community interests. To serve visitors, valet parking services will be operating at Lemonade (1661 Abbot Kinney) and at Navarre Court behind N’Ice Cream. Public parking is available in public lots at Irving Tabor Court which runs parallel to Electric Avenue.
In the coming months, a number of in-store events are being planned and food trucks will be on-site in the Brig parking lot. Shop owners pledge to continue efforts that contribute to preserving Abbot Kinney’s unique appeal making First Fridays a monthly celebration for everyone to enjoy.
